The official instructions for a Repair Install (also known as an in-place
upgrade) are in Knowledge Base article 315341.
To do a Clean Install, just boot from the WinXP CD-ROM and follow the
instructions. Be sure to NOT tell it to Upgrade from some earlier Windows
version, and be sure to put the new installation into a separate volume
(primary partition or logical drive in an extended partition) from any
existing Windows installation.

Re: upgrading xp to vista premium question ... When Vista...Upgrade was installing, I assume it also saw a single disk with a single ... I wasn't sure I could do a clean install of Vista originally and ... were partitioned into 3 different volumes and during the install of Vista ... (microsoft.public.windows.mediacenter)
