Did you try logging on to the computer as a Domain Administrator, rather than a local Admin? The Domain Administrator would have been able to remove the computer from the domain. Then you could rename the computer. Finally, the computer could be joined to the new domain by someone with Administrator rights on the new domain.Dear all, We have this problem in one of Windows XP pro in our work place. For the company policy, we have to change all XP computer name and rejoin to another domain. However we have problem changing this PC name. The PC is running on wireless network, login as local admin, go to "computer name" tag of computer property, found that the "network id" and "change" button is gray off. There was a remark below the tag " The indentification of the computer cannot be changed becauasue: - network is not installed or properly configured." We tried to remove the account from domain, restart the PC however it is still the same. the PC is able to ping whole network and able to access application (SQL). We need to be able to change the PC name, join it to domain. Wish you can advise us.
thanks a lot
