Windows Messenger is NOT integral to Windows XP. It is an add-in that can
easily be uninstalled.

I don't know about the current version of MSN Messenger, but version 5 of
MSN Messenger WAS integral to the MSN service IF you had MSN as your dial-up
ISP.
