Sure.
It has nothing to do XP Professional vs XP Home, or with any
operating system vs any other operating system. The only issue is
whether you have the same (or compatible) application to read
them.
So if, for example, you had a Windows 95 computer running an
older version of Microsoft Word, you could read those Microsoft
Word documents on Windows XP (either Home or Professional), *if*
you had Microsoft Word installed on that Windows XP computer.
