The MS firewall is excellent at what it does. It will protect you from
worms, hackers, etc. It also runs before your computer is connected to the
internet. Zonealarm and others have a small window when the computer is
booting up where your computer could be infected. MS firewall in combination
with a good antivirus, and a good anti spyware program will give you as good
as you can get protection against outside infection. What Zone Alarm and
other firewalls offer that is extra is the ability to monitor what is
leaving your computer as well as what is coming in. This will only tell you
if you have been infected. It has no extra features to help prevent
infection from an outside source.

You also need a good antispyware program, preferably two or three. You also
need to practice safe computing. This means checking that all your programs
including Windows are up to date, running scans, and generally monitoring
what is going on with your computer.

Oh yeah, Shenan Stanley has all this in his post. I agree it may be more
effecient to point to a web link but the post is not that long and a lot of
newbies may not click on a link. I say keep posting the way you do. I'm sure
it's helped many people clean their computers and then helped them stay
clean.
