Yes, one would think so. But just to be sure, go and check that out. See
what the laptop manufacturer has to say on this subject.

I have to assume you tried to format it in the laptop as a NTFS drive? Did
you do this through the computer manager? Are you prepared to see whether
it makes any difference if you partition the 160 into 2 80GB partitions on
your desktop computer and see whether you can then access them from the
laptop?

And the format of your friend's harddrive?

I find your experiences really strange and am at a loss as to why you're
experiencing this problem. I've experienced alot of weirdness at times with
XP and USB2 on some computers. You might try removing the USB2 devices in
device manager and then restarting the computer with the hd connected and
see whether XP can successfully re-install the drivers.

I'm sorry, but I don't feel like I'm being much help here. Something is
obviously amiss with your XP system on the laptop. Hopefully someone will
have better suggestions for you.
