XP Users

I have a Gateway 500 series computer that I've owned for several
years. When first set up, there was only one user profile. It's an
administrator login. About 6 months ago, I set up a second user
profile, but have been noticing problems. Recently, I needed to set
up a third profile, and the same issues are happening, no matter the
level of privileges.

Basically, no matter who logs in, settings such as desktop icons and
app specific settings are all taken from either the Owner or the
Administrator. I really can't tell, since it seems like those two
are intermingled. I say this because My documents for the original
user is housed in Administrator, but Desktop settins are housed in
Owner. This seems to carry on further.

Examples: New User 1 logs in. Immediately there's an alert from the
system that the homepage for Firefox is trying to be changed. If
changed, the resulting homepage is now changed in ALL users. If an
icon is removed off the desktop because it isn't needed for that
user, it is missing from ALL users. If AOL or AIM or Trillian is
loaded, it is automatically logged in to my main account (as set up
in the original user's settings). Any changes, change them
EVERYWHERE.

I've been trying to figure this out for a while. I can't seem to find
any help pages that tell me how one user (especially not an
administrator) can make global changes, or more importantly how to
stop that from happening. Nor can I seem to find any instance of
where personal settings are split between Administrator and Owner
profiles. This *should* be the main Administrator profile that
doesn't show up in the Control Panel screen (and it doesn't), but yet
certain documents and settings for Owner seem to reside there.

Thanks for any ideas out there. I'm new to this list.

Mike
