Adding/removing software

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

Using XP Pro. When runing remove program in control panel, get message
removal was successful. However, the program is still there and runable. Any
suggestions on how to remove it other than finding all components and
manually dumping them?
