aa: try this to see if you can get your mike to work:

START--Control Panel--click on SPEECH--
With the Speech Recognition (tab) on, make sure the entry shows Language as
English and a check mark in Default Speech profile.

On the Microphone tab near the bottom, click on "audio Input" and make sure
it is set to "Use Preferred Audio Input" then click on NEXT. Now on
"Configure Micrphone" click on NEXT, and talk into the microphone (I assume
it is plugged into the "MIKE" input port on your sound card) as instructed,
then click on NEXT.
Then when is suggests that you say a certain sentence talk into the mike as
instructed and then click FINISH. Click O.K. to get back to the control panel
and "X" out of it.

Now go to START--ALL PROGRAMS--ACCESSORIES--and click on
INTERTAINMENT--SOUND RECORDER. When the recorder screen comes up cilick on
FILE NEW then click on the red record button and see if your mike is working
now.

You should notice a speech diagram going across the green line.
Hope that helps set up your mike with the proper settings for that
particular microphone.

Redwagon.....
