| My win XP alienware computer started making writing/saving noises today on
| it's C drive.
|
| When I search for files, I see listed files that are being written but I'm
| not touching anything. In this list, notepad files such as 'security',
| 'ntuser.dat' and "software/ windows32 config" won't let me open them, saying
| "this process cannot access
| the file because it is being used by another process". I took screen
| captures of that list.
|
| I ran AVG anti virus; it showed no infections. It did show 3 things
| (windows/system32 user32, shell32 dlls and ntoskrnl.exe) "changed" instead
| of 'OK'. I don't remember it ever saying that before.
|
| I ran Spybot and it showed 13 things--all cookies--that I fixed.
|
| But the writing/saving is still occuring.
|
| My task manager shows 41 things (after fixing with spybot)--including
| "wowexec.exe" which curiously shows no listing of its
| 'mem usage'. I took screen captures of task manager too.
|
| As I started to write this, my comupter C:drive finally went silent-- no
| more saving/writing noises, after 2+ hours of doing it!
|
| I need to know what this is and what to do now!
The "changed" file message indicates that you installed a MS Critcal Update HotFix.
