I can't remember where I read this but a few weeks back I was reading
an article that was showing that company actions have led to the near
death of Gateway, forcing it to align with E-Machine and get into the
Plasma TV game.
Of the many reasons, one was shown to completely parallel itself in
time, with Gateway's move into the India Support game. They said that
even though Gateway support had deteriated notably since 1998, when
they moved it to India, the low level of satisfaction in their support
had plummeted even further leading to a loss of return customer
patronage and new customer startups. Seems as though people talk and
the word got around.
I have to admit that my last two computers were white box builds by a
local reputable builder. The only reason I chose to go local was a
bad experience/language problem with an Indian support person for a
Dell system. I told myself that I would never buy from a conglomerate
builder again that outsourced their support to a third world country.
I think many others are starting to do the same because from the
Gateway story I read, people are wanting to buy from people/companies
that offer support in their own language, from support that has the
mental capacity to go beyond reading canned answers off a computer
screen and support as close to home as possible so one can have eye to
eye contact with their support (if possible).
While this is possible in cases of builders of systems of which most
towns with any size, have a builder.... It can't be done for software
like your OS. However, I can't see that by MS outsourcing its support
to India will have any positive results for the customer.
Regards,
.
