I attempted to reinstall xp Media Center but I got an error message that setup could not find a cd rom drive (I have a dvd-r and a dvd-rw drive), so I aborted the install. Now when I start the computer, I have to chose between setup or normal start. How do I get rid of this?
Also if (or maybe I should say when) I choose to reinstall windows, do I need to go into safe mode for it to find the cdrom?
If I reinstall windows will I have to reinstall my other software?
Thanks.
Ashik, do your DVD drives read CDs? Not all can. So if neither is cabable of reading a CD then that's why the error and you'll need to get a CD drive to read the CD.
A reinstall of windows (otherwise called an in place upgrade) will not remove your data or programs but you will need to reinstall any updates from windows update that are not incorporated in the installation CD.
To solve your issue now of getting two choices edit the boot.ini file and remove the line referring to setup.
To edit the boot.ini right click on My Computer, choose properties, then the Advanced tab. Click on Settings under the Startup and Recovery section, then click on Edit.
