If repeatedly tapping F8 as the computer is starting up doesn't work for
you, use msconfig as follows:

Start>Run msconfig [enter]

On the BOOT.INI tab, put a check next to /SAFEBOOT, Apply and OK out.
Now restart the computer and it will go automatically into Safe Mode.
To get back to Regular Mode, just reverse those steps.
