Hi there...i have two computers at home one is a Dell that came with an OEM version of WIndows XP and an HP Pavillion that had Linux on it...anyways, i installed LInux on my Dell, and taking the Dell Operating System CD that came with my Dell and tried to install it on my HP Pavillion...it seemed OK at first, then it began to act all crazy on me and froze up constantly. I have read that Microsoft has a new security element on their WIndows XP software that detects hardware changes, and when it does it doesnt like it at all...and i think thats what happened...so i dont know if their is much truth to what that guy told you unless he really does know something that we dont???:what ... Anyways, i just put my XP back on my Dell, and it works just fine...so go figure...ha!
An OEM version must be sold with a piece of hardware (normally a motherboard or hard rive, if not an entire PC) and is _permanently_ bound to the first PC on which it's installed. An OEM license, once installed, is not legally transferable to another computer under _any_ circumstances.
