This gets covered a lot.

You have 2 main options

RUN a diagnostic. Go to start - run - type msconfig, then click diagnostic,
and see if it happens, if not then recheck 5 services and startup items at a
time to see what is causing the problem

If that fails then i suggest running the repair consol. It will not delete
your programs or data but ti will delete your drivers, and you will need to
update windows... To run this insert the XP cd, restart and boot from cd, and
run the repair consol
