How do I start Recovery CD?

I have an ACER Aspire 1700 Desknote that came with XP Pro. loaded and a
recovery CD
Due to recent virus infection I had damaged system files that weren't
allowing operation of certain programs and system functions, "system
restore" for example.
The recovery CD was no help, so I formatted by use of an XP home CD that I
have, and loaded XP Home.
I loaded all the drivers, etc. by use of the System CD that came with my
Aspire (CD1) but I cannot access such things as NTI CD maker that is
included in the harddrive image on the recovery CD (CD2).

How do I create an environment where the recovery CD will work?
It isn't even mentioned in the manual provided
