Simple? You can do stuff there that you can't normally do in the OS itself.
You can make changes. You can access the hidden admin account on XP Home.
You can change things around without worries about loaded drivers or
applications that interfere. You can restore. You can do almost everything
you can in the OS itself with some limitations. Truly? I say play around and
break stuff, ask questions later. It's more fun and you'll learn more in the
process. What will happen is people will get tired of fixing your PC for you
and you'll learn on your own. Laugh all you want but it has worked for me
since about 1979...
