Cody, what is the source of the file? At the source, is it a BMP file?
You said photo but don't know if it's from a camera or from the internet.
If from the internet, run Disk Cleanup and empty your Temporary Internet
Files.
If a camera, check what format the camera is using to create the pictures.
If using BMP, you might want to consult the camera manual for directions on
how to change this to a different file type. While bitmaps are large, they
can deliver nicer quality than JPG. Another alternative is to go ahead and
save the file as a bitmap. Keep this on hand as the original - move to CD
or DVD for long term storage. Then open file in an image editing program
and use File> Save As to save a "working copy" as a JPG or whatever other
format you prefer.
