Sounds as though yall guys have a ways to go.
You coined this funny and it really isn't. At least not for the client.

1. Network card failed so you installed XP.
Because it didn't work properly, you couldn't get it installed and
working or.....just because?
2. Were the settings correct for sharing via the Notebook on your part?
3. Crashed as in how? Error message(s)? Are you speaking of XP Home or
Pro?
4. Had you tried the Recovery Console? Would it boot into Safe Mode?
