Problems installing programs... PLEASE help.

First off, thanks for coming.
I have two brand new systems, each with an ASUS P4S800-MX board with Celeron
D-335 2.8G processor. I freshly formated the HDs (WD) and installed OEM
Microsoft Windows Home XP with SP2. The MB drivers, Windows updates and the
Nero (burning software) seem to install normally.
Problem: Nothing else wants to install?!?! I have tried to install Symantec
WinFax on both systems, without success. The installation runs normally,
until the "setup" window, where you must type in the Fax telephone number. At
that point, after I enter the "name" of the sender, ie. me, whenever I try to
change fields, to enter the Fax number (by either TAB or with the mouse), the
window simply closes. I have tried to install the same CD/software on other
older systems, without fault. Also, when we try to install other software,
they freeze or hang, during the installation process. To date, I have tried a
few suggestions and even a reformat and reinstall of SP1. Still no luck.
PLEASE HELP!?!
Thank you,
Mike
.
