Screen Resolution Problem

One of the kids changed the screen resolution and I can't get it back. I did
a repair installation and can now at least get into safe mode. In safe mode
it let me change it from 640X480 to 800X600 but that's as far as it will go.
The computer still hangs after the Win XP logo and before the welcome screen.
I tried to reinstall the video driver but it won't let me. Is it because
I'm in safe mode? This is Win XP Pro. Please help. Thanks
.
