Generally under the RUN registry keys (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE & HKEY_CURRENT_USER). But there are several more startup launch points. Most are covered in this page:

MSCONFIG utility in Windows XP can manage the startup programs loaded in these three locations:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows
(In right-pane, Values named "Run" & "Load")
