Trying to upgrade boot disk

Can anyone tell me how to copy my existing, functional boot drive to another
drive which will be used to replace the existing boot drive?
I have a Dell 8200 Inspiron laptop that I'd like to replace its current boot
drive with another drive. This is what I've done so far. I got a drive frame
to contain the new drive so I could install multiple hard drives on the lap
top. This works just fine. I used Norton Ghost to copy the boot drive to the
new drive. This almost works. Upon swapping the drive, the machine
successfully boots up to the point where it is asking for a user's name and
password. After entering a user name and password, the machine reboots.
So, has anyone upgraded their laptop boot drive and, if so, how did you do
it?

What do you have if you have 50 female pigs and 50 male deer?
100 sows and bucks, of course.
