I would look at those machines and test them for malware and hardware
failures. Also look at what is different about those machines, perhaps
some hardware or software incompatibility with SP2. I've installed SP2
on lots of machines (not as many as big sysadmins, but close to 250 by
now) and have never experienced that on any of the machines.
