Actually the "previous versions" of Windows "Powered off" the hardware also, IF the hardware was APCI compliant. It would appear from your posts that you NOW are the owner of APCI compliant hardware AND Windows works as it should! What you want to do is BREAK it! Easiest way would be to bugger it up in the BIOS I suppose.

Sorry. I left a sentence out of my note. When I "shut-down" WinXP, I would like it to NOT power-down my system, merely sit there! I'LL deal with the power where required. Given that previous versions of the OS did NOT power the system down, merely showing a screen telling me it was safe to shut down the system, I'm sure it's a registry entry that can be tweaked to prevent the behavior. Then sent it to Standby instead of telling it to Shutdown.

I REALLY don't want WinXP Pro to power-off my system when it quiesces! There MUST be a way to prevent that! Can someone supply a registry change?
Thanks.
