Unknown connection made

Hi all,
Can someone please tell me why (for what reason) my system insists on making
a connection to http://sa.windows.com right after it has been booted and the
user logs on.
There is nothing in the various startup locations/folders (registry or
otherwise) that to my knowledge is even remotely related to this url.
All that is started that way is 'known' stuff like AVG control center etc.
The various Whois servers I tried querying at samspade.org all come back:
sa.windows.com = [ 207.46.248.249 ]
ERROR: Unable to connect to whois.opensrs.net for windows.com ... Aborting
....
I really, really would like to know.
So any and all insight is appreciated.
george
