Hey Roger,
Not to sound idiotic, but where did you get your version of Sp2 from?
(hint)
Was it the "downloadable network version," or from a CD from MS?
It sounds to me like you've made a valiant effort in trying to correct
your problems. For what it's worth; some people will generally try to
help you, some people will call you an idiot. I tend to ignore the
latter!

The reason for this post-back is because I'm getting ready to take the
Sp2 plunge again on a computer I know had problems in the past. (see
sig.)
This time around I plan to be where your computer is; *** naked!
That means turning off usb in the bios, removing my media reader, int.
ide hard drive, ext. hard drive, usb/firewire combo card, and Audigy 2
Zs sound card, printer & scanner. I have even gone to the extent of
extracting the Sp2cab file & replacing firewire drivers, then
compressing the SP2cab file back to the network install.
www.microlognet.com (Cabinet Manager)

So don't feel alone. You will solve your problems.
Best,
treeman
