Turn on the compute and start tapping the F8 key just as soon as the
first information of any kind shows on the screen. Keep tapping
rapidly until the Windows XP Startup Menu appears and choose the "last
known good configuration" option from the menu.

If that does not work restart and again bring up the Startup Menu.
This time choose Safe Mode from the menu and use System Restore from
Safe Mode to put your machine back to the most recent restore point
that is prior to the attempt to install SP2.
