It sounds like your motherboard may have a problem. It sounds like all your
problems started from the time you installed the new hardware.

If it's a software problem then try doing a clean install from a SP2
slipstreamed version of XP. To answer your earlier question, yes, you can
slipstream an upgrade version. You will still have to insert an eligible
media during the install. Make sure you have all unnecessary hardware
disconnected when you try the clean install. Connect one hard drive, one
CDROM, one DIMM, etc. After Windows is installed you can add things back in.
Be sure to delete any existing partitions on the hard drive when doing the
install. Make sure all BIOS settings are set to the default value before
starting the install. If it still doesn't install it's a hardware problem.
