frequent crashiing

Hi
I bought a HP Pavilion with 30 GB, 512 MB Ram one and half years ago. I am
having lots of problems wiht this. This frequently crashes even if i do some
things like scheduling, Installing SP2 updates, hitting the standby button
etc.. Any idea where the problem could be? Is it a software problem or
Hardware. Any help is appreciated.
