Assuming your friend is using XP Home Edition, have them boot into Safe
Mode by repeatedly tapping the F8 key as the computer is starting up.
This will get them to the right menu. Then have them log in using the
normally hidden Administrator account. If asked for a password, the
default is a blank. Then once in, your friend can go to the User
Accounts applet in Control Panel and reset the password for his/her
account.
