I asked that on this NG a while back and the MVP's said no you
don't... any prior version of XP can be slipstreamed up to SP2.

No, it just creates the image that you will later burn to a disk with
your own burning software.

According to the slipstream manual, you will need Nero Burning ROM or
Easy CD Creator. Nero has a trial version you can download. I have
seen some real strange burning software packages that come with a lot
of new OEM computers that really don't have or give a lot of needed
options to do proper CD/DVD burning. If you don't have either Nero or
Roxio, I would suggest getting one or the other. My personal choice
is Nero 6 Ultra Edition v6.6.0.8

Anyway...

You will now need to burn the CD Image file onto a blank CD. For this
purpose, a CD recorder along with CD burning software (for example
Ahead Nero Burning ROM, Roxio Easy CD Creator etc) will be needed. You
can complete the burning procedure on any system with a CD Recorder
(Any operating system; not just Windows 2000/XP/2003). Depending on
your CD burning software, you will need to use the option to burn an
Image on the CD. For example, in Nero Burning ROM 6.x, the "Recorder
-> Burn CD Image" is the one in question. Consult your software's
manual for additional help. Also, depending on your CD burning
software the following options may or may not be the default ones. In
such case, adjust them to:
Type of Image Data Mode 1
Block size (Bytes) 2048
Image header (Bytes) 0
Image trailer (Bytes) 0
Make sure Write, Finalize CD, and Disc-At-Once are checked, then
choose Write (again, depends on software).

Hope this helps,
Dave
