Take a look at this site first:
How to perform an inplace upgrade (reinstallation) of Windows XP:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;315341
Do that, use a different user name then you were using and copy the profile
over and you *should* still have your data and your account settings for the
most part.
