This concerns XP Home SP-2 with all the latest updates running on a laptop
with a Pentium 4 running at 2.66 GHz and 512 RAM.
I usually just close down the lid of the laptop which sends XP into
hibernation. Lifting the lid gets it out of hibernation. Recently, last
week (or two?) I sometimes have trouble returning from hibernation. When I
lift the lid, the progress bar at the bottom fills up as usual, from left to
right, but when it has filled completely, the laptop locks up: keys do
nothing including Ctrl-Alt-Del and I am forced to press the Power button and
do a hard re-boot. It then tells me that the return from hibernation did
not work last time, do I wish to delete the info and start afresh or try
again. When I try again, I get the same system lock-up at the end of the
progress column and the only thing that works is to delete the restoration
data and do a full startup.
This never used to happen to me in the past. It does not happen everytime -
only every now and then with the reason I can see. Is this a known problem
with the most recent updates? The Event viewer reveals no problem remarks
in system or applications. Any suggestions as to how to figure out why this
is happening? My computing habits have not changed that I know of. I have
ZoneAlarm, do regular updated spyware checks and virus checks - so I know I
am clean - but none of this is newly installed
Thanks.
