Yes, you'll need to Partition/format the new drive.
Almost all motherboards come with two IDE channels, Primary
and Secondary and each channel supports two devices (Four).
Newer Motherboards also have Serial ATA capability along
with the traditional PATA mentioned before that increases the
available device count up to 6.
Just be aware that drives generate a good amount of heat. A
normal case temp may get too warm with 3 drives, so additional
cooling may be required.
