Defrag problem

When I try to defrag my hard drive running Windows XP home edition, I get the
following message:
"The application or DLL C:\WINDOWS\system32\mmcbase.DLL is not a valild
Windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette."
What can I do to fix this?
