Hi Will,

Thanks for your interest in my problem.

I am the sole user of my PC so I am the Administrator. I am looking at the following key:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Run

When I do as you say, there are four groups: Administrators (me), Creator Owner (don't know who this is), System and Users (me again).

Permissions are as follows:

Administrators: checks in 'Allow' box for Full Control, Read and Special Permissions, other boxes unchecked
Creator Owner: check in 'Allow' box for Special Permissions only, other boxes unchecked
System: check in 'Allow' box for Full Control and Read only. Special Permissions and other boxes unchecked
Users: same as Systems

Needless to say, I can't change the permissions like I can't change or delete values. Fortunately, everything else seems to be working OK on the PC apart from this issue with Registry access.

Any more ideas to try?

    Try Will's advice--reboot after editing and before reopening regedit.
