About 10 days ago I posted trying to get some advice re: my cd drive
wasn't being recognized by windows. Got a lot of suggestions, unfortunately
none of them worked.
The drive is recognized in the bios info as the first bootable
device. It's just that when I boot up to windows xp home it isn't listed in
device manager at all nor in my computer as a CD RW drive. It is listed in
the registry under HKLM ; SYSTEM; CONTROL SET 002, CONTROL SET 003 and
CURRENT CONTROL SET ; ENUM; IDE. It is NOT listed under CONTROL SET 001.
Have googled MS, Cnet, Zappersoftware and other forums for answers,
none have helped.
I've switched IDE cables with the hard drive and no luck.
From what I've learned so far on websites it appears that CD drives
need a basic set of drivers to load. Something about MSCDEX.exe being in the
config sys. I thought XP didnt' have a config sys.
If I go to start, all programs, accessories, system tools and system
information. In system information under the software environment, system
drivers shows a list of drivers I assume are basic system drivers. Am I
correct so far?
Halfway down the first page is cdrom. It's listed as a kernel driver
but the next column states it is not started. The next column says the
System is responsible for starting it but the next column lists it as
stopped.
I'm no computer geek but is this the basic first system driver that
should be loaded when the system is booted up to get at least CD
recognition?
If so then I guess this driver has to be enabled somehow. I may be way
off base here but now I'm pretty much grasping for straws.
