Hi, Ron.
Yes, I see what you mean. I'll try to get the attention of the MSFT folks
who maintain the KB. Not only is this specific line wrong, but there are a
few other parts of the article that need to be cleaned up. Like, for
instance, MY control panel does not have a "Performance and Maintenance"
tool; does yours? And the article implies that it is a simple matter to add
Win2K to an existing WinXP installation; in my experience, it's not simple
at all, because when Win2K Setup spots WinXP's version of NTLDR and
NTDETECT.COM, it refuses to install Win2K. (But I haven't tried to
reinstall Win2K in years, so maybe my memory about this is not correct.)
Of course, you (and any other user) can also comment by using the feedback
section at the bottom of the article.
If I get a response to my request for a change in KB 289022, I'll try to
remember to come back here and update this thread.
In the meantime, any reader who refers to KB article 289022 should note the
error. The "disk(1)" in this line in the "after" version of the sample
boot.ini file is wrong:
multi(0)disk(1)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Windows XP Professional"
/fastdetect
It should say:
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Windows XP Professional"
/fastdetect
The computer probably would not boot until the error is corrected. :>(
Thanks for pointing that out, Ron.
