Unexpected shutdown

After a few minutes of operating, my computer gives me a 1 minute warning and
shuts down. Error message is c:\windows\system 32 is corrupt and unreadable.
 Please run the chkdsk utility. I do this and nothing different. I'm at my
wits end and ready to smash the computer. I'm not a novice, and certainly
not an expert and any help would be greatly appreciated.
