Windows XP has something called the Microsoft Management
Console. You access this a number of different ways. Easiest
perhaps is Right Click My Computer and then Left Click Manage.
Within the MMC, are a number of Console Support modules,
Called Snap-Ins.
When the MMC opens it will have a small window size, so the
first thing to do is Maximize it. It has the same layout as Windows
Explorer (Split-Pane View).
In the Left Pane are the category views. (With + Symbols)
Under System Tools, Click the + beside Event Viewer. One at a
time Left Click System (or Application) Then look in the Right Pane
You are interested in finding entries with a Red Icon, that denotes
an Error. Double-Click each Red Icon. A small Details box will
appear that gives a "Nutshell" Description of the event and also
a numerical Event ID#.
The Logs carry many days of entries. What you should do is clear
both System and Application logs. Right Click both the Application
and System Headers in the Left Pane. A context menu will open.
Left Click the option "Clear Log" and answer N to saving data.
Do this for both logs and then Reboot your Computer. After it is
rebooted - Recheck the logs and you'll see exactly what is happening
during your PC's boot up.
