Kirk, that is a good reason why so many more users will have to dual-boot
with 98SE and XP. You have to have two lines of code:

9x based on MS-DOS

and

NT (New Technology) based on a Command.Com prompt with a false (emulated
version of MS-DOS)

According to Chris Quirke (MVP), Microsoft has not developed a maintainence
operating system that would be the underlying core for XP. Gary S. Terhune
(MVP) also tells us that NT (XP, 2000, NT4) are all based on the emulated
version of MS-DOS and Microsoft has saved money, time and effort by going the
quick and easy way. I hope IBM will come back into the business and give
Microsoft a run for their money. Anyone besides me remember the failed OS/2
by IBM and IBM DOS. Now, a national security issue has arisen because IBM
wants to sell their software side to a Chinese company. I think it is bad
enough that the majority of the products, Americans must buy are Chinese made
and it is taking American jobs. There is also the border crises with Mexico
and the Mexican government apparently has released a booklet about how to
cross into the United States illegally. Mexico should fix their own corrupt
government, imo. Anyway, back on topic and I sincerely hope that there are
many comments on this post. Finally, I also sincerely hope that Microsoft
will remedy this problem in Longhorn.
