> Let's assume that I can get all the software for free and only want an assembled, working and tested, PC. Can I get that or am I required to buy they're software? And without the software issue, where's the biggest bang for my buck? (I prefer not to assemble [build]}. Plus I live in San Diego and there is a very healthy PC competion here. Usually my net cost (Tax vs. shipping) is the same for hardware and software.
You might want to consider what's called a "bare-bones system."
They are just the case, power supply, motherboard, and CPU. You
need to add RAM, hard drives, DVD burners, modems, video cards,
sound cards (unless you are one of those who uses on-board video
and sound). They come without software.
