For the same $$, you can always build a better system yourself. A $500
Dell could be built for $250, but you'd have to build it and service it
yourself (obviously). And "design" it, research it, order it, wait for
it, etc. Spend the original $500 and you'd end up w/ a far better machine
too.

If you're a hobby-type person then the experience has it's own rewards; if
you're a type-A person making big bucks on-the-job then "wasting" >6 hours
of your (expensive) time designing and building the bloody thing is
certainly not cost effective.

Side Note: most cheap Dell's today come w/ only a 90 day warrentee, not a
year. Dell's tech support costs have been killing their bottom-line the
past few years, and they are backing off. IMHO Dell's were a reasonable
choice 2-3 years ago, but no more. Try ABS Computers instead, they're
smaller and still "try harder".
