I have been troubleshooting this situation for weeks w/o any success. If
anyone HAS encountered this and knows an answer, pls post it!

Often, when rt-clicking an object or attempting to delete an active object,
Explorer will just hang there for 5-7 seconds or so trying to open up the
Context/Confirmation window (as is appropriate for what I clicked/pressed),
but eventually fails with the Dr. Watson reporting tool. For the longest time
the details of the reporting process kept stating that MS did not know why
the error occurred but urged me to upgrade to SP2. So finally I gave in and
did so. But the problem persists.

I have also tried to accomplish my file management tasks using My Computer
and Internet Explorer GUIs, but they also exhibit the same behavior.

This does not affect all objects (but does seem to affect all object-TYPES).
And, surprisingly, an object previously affected will sometimes "right"
itself and later Explorer will work properly with it. Usually this will be
noticed subsequent to some kind of adjustment (usually permissions resetting,
or ownership change) to an object above it in the tree, but by no means
always. Sometimes I can change ownerships on a different volume and go back
to a previosuly errant object and it will then behave properly, on
occasion...8o() but no consistency has been identified.

This situation is known to NOT be correctable by any kind of reboot.

Sometimes I can move an affeceted object to another location, and then
succesfully perform the Rt-click or deletion process, and then again
sometimes not. In those NOT occasions I have tried moving the parent folder,
and then sometimes _that_ will succeed, others not.

I have Scandisk/CHKDSK/NortonDiskDoctor/Spinrite 'd all disks so many times
I am certain by now that each one of these programs is on a first-name-basis
with each and every byte on my disks, but no errors are being detected or,
sadly, repaired (if they even exist, which I do not believe the troubles are
in the files, disks or directories, but within Explorer or a sub-component...)

If anyone can tell me how I can "reinstall/restore" Explorer.exe (with all
of its sub-parts, which I don't know), please post that!

What I am also interested in some assistance with is how or where-can-I-go
to get documentation on what Windows components (like .dll's, etc.) are
ingredients of Explorer.exe, IExplore.exe and
whatever-it-is-that-drives-MyComputer.exe (although I suspect that it is
still Explorer.exe or the root prog Explore.exe).
My present idea is to research these subcomponents and find what common
pieces there are among/between them and see if any patch/upgrade/other SW
install has inadvertantly stepped on them which is causing this behavior in
Explorer.

Any MS-MVP's that can help me with finding this documentation out there?
I've tried TechNet searching for several hours the last two days to no
avail... I could sure use some assistance in wihich direction to head.

Thanks!
