4Mbps is available in some areas for Comcast but not in others. They
only claim to have the conversion completed by March 31, so you might
still be at 3Mbps. 1.6Mbps would be what you had before the last
upgrade about a year ago and it required power cycling your cable modem.
Yeah, you might've done that already but I know some folks (like me)
that have a UPS on the cable modem (why have the computer up if I can't
connect, too, to fullfil my online addiction?). It also sounded like
Comcast would download some profile into the cable modem but that was
just some passing read I had in the Comcast user group at
http://www.broadbandreports.com. You can go there yourself to get info
from others plus they have some reports on speed tests which you could
look up for your area.

Broadband speed calculators are a bit flaky. One moment you're high,
the next you're low. So try a few. I usually run the tests at
http://www.broadbandreports.com/ and at http://www.mycootools.com/ (from
VisualWare; you'll need to register for this one).

My last test showed anywhere from 2.6 to 3..1 Mbps (this was around 4AM
this morning) but that is to be expected because Comcast hasn't rolled
out 4Mbps service in my area yet. Upload speed can range anywhere
44Kbps to 256Kbps (upload speed has always been flaky with Comcast for
me).
