Goes online intermittently

Working on a pc that was loaded with spyware, cleaned out all that I can.
Installed norton. Norton did update itself once or twice. I have been unable
to get online with IE. Now I am unable to get nortons Live update to connect.
XP home,, I installed SP-2 from a cd, hooked to roadrunner thru a router,
other pc's on network see the one in question. ?????
