Right click pop up menu delay 20 seconds

All,
It just started happening couple weeks ago. On my windows xp professional
machine, when I right click on the icon (word, excel, media file etc.), it is
taking forever for the pop-up menu to appear. But on some application icons,
it is not taking that long like Recycle bin on desktop, My Computer icon etc.
Why is this happening and is there a fix for it? I have installed current
updates from windowsupdate both critical and non-critical, still the problem
persists.... Any help will be highly appreciated.
