My System:
P4S800D-E ASUS Deluxe MB
P4 2.4 Ghz.
512 mb ram
40 gig. hard drive 98SE (Fat32)
80 gig. hard drive XP Pro. (NTFS)
ATI 9200 128 mb's video ram (8x AGP)
Sound Blaster Audigy
Cable connection
etc.
I chose a dual-boot system to allow for old-school gaming in 98SE and to be
able to configure 98SE the way I like it and because 98SE is a great
operating system. I have XP PRO. because it is needed in some modern
software, because it is a current Microsoft operating system, and because I
want to be able to understand and use XP's operating system. I have just two
giant partitions on each hard drive and I may end up partitioning them in the
future with a program like Partition Magic. I think that your system is
great for 98SE but may be a little slow in XP Pro. At the bare minimum, I
would suggest doubling your ram to 256 mbs. I use the boot loader that
Microsoft provides but I edited the boot.ini to say Microsoft Windows 98
Second Edition rather than just Microsoft Windows for my other operating
system. I am still learning XP Pro. and currently working in 98SE to tighten
down the hatches (aka security/driver issues) and then I will focus a little
more on the XP side. For me, I just installed 98 Second Edition on my 40
gigabyte hard drive (master) and then I installed XP Pro. on my other hard
drive. (slave) Let me know if you have any more questions.

: Hi Dan, This may be off subject here but why did you choose a dual os
: installation, was it problematic, did you need to partition hard drive, how
: much memory is necessary for them to function on same system, what system
: capacity are you using. I recently bit the bullet and bought Wxp,
: Professional to upgrade from my Win98, SE but I have been using this os for
5
: yrs now, and I am used to it. I have to decide whether or not to run both
or
: just upgrade, and figure out how and why. I finally purchase the new op
: system though just for the very reason the supported issues are less, the
: vulnerabilities keep coming, and I am relying more on the internet as time
: progresses.My system has:
: GenuineIntel X86 Family6 Model8 Stepping3, 127.0MB RAM
: ticket Intel Pentium III,600 MHz
: 30GB harddrive
: 128MB SDRAM
: W98,SE with IE6, SP1 but OE6 now not functioning for some reason
: Dialup connection with SBC, modem Conexant SoftK56,Data,Fax PCI
: Thanks for your input; and I agree with the extending supported deadline
for
: Windows 98, but it seems a done deal with Wxp out of the box, and Longhorn
: on the horizon....
