I believe that if you insert the Windows XP cdrom into your drive, you can
start the filechecker program, that checks to see if any system files have
been changed or corrupt, and will replace them from files on the CD. I would
also run a scan using Microsoft Antispyware AND/or Ad-Aware SE (availiable on
www.download.com), to see if there are files installed which perhaps
corrupted the machine/files in the first place. Also is there enough RAM on
the laptop? Has a virus scan been performed?
